Getting around in Puerto Vallarta is an easy task and there are several options.
- Taxis are the most common and easiest way to get around. Taxis are pretty much everywhere throughout the city and are a great way to get from point to point. Most rates are pretty standard but it’s a good idea to ask what the cost is before getting into the taxi.
- Taxis from the airport are all union taxi drivers and you must use a union taxi when departing from the airport. This is a one-way service only and you will need to take a non-union taxi for the return trip.
- Busses are another way to get around and they are REALLY inexpensive but it will take much longer to reach your destination and there are LOTS of stops along the way. They are usually pretty crowded especially during rush hour and tends to be the most popular method of transportation used by nationals. The routes can be a bit confusing if you are not familiar with them and if you are a 1st timer, you might want to travel with an experienced bus traveler.
- Car Rentals are available through several companies. Daily rates will vary and you will want to compare prices before you select one of them. Keep in mind that parking is a problem and limited, especially in town. You really don’t need a car rental if you are staying in town and taxis are a better option. But if you want to explore the outlying areas a rental car is a good option.
- Last but not least is a concierge service. There are several around and they are all priced about the same and provide good service. This is worth considering especially if you have a large group staying at a villa or hotel. We use a couple of companies and we can advise you by contacting us at:

- Recently Uber has come on the scene and is another way to get around. Be aware that it may be a bit slower in getting to you and slightly more money than a taxi.
